Ricercatrice CNR nominata chair di una flagship della Ny-Ålesund Science Managers Committee (NySMAC)

Nel corso del meeting della Terrestrial Ecology Flagship tenutosi ad Oslo il 5 novembre 2019 nell’ambito della Svalbard Science Conference, Angela Augusti ricercatrice dell'Istituto di ricerca sugli ecosistemi terrestri (CNR-IRET) è stata nominata coordinatrice della suddetta flagship.

Un team internazionale guidato da scienziate e scienziati dell’Università Ca’ Foscari Venezia e dell’Istituto di Scienze Polari (CNR-ISP) ha letto, nei composti chimici depositati nel ghiaccio, l’andamento degli incendi di cinquemila anni.

Marco Casula, tecnico del CNR-ISP, è rientrato in Italia dalla Stazione di Ricerca in Artico del CNR Dirigibile Italia a Ny-Ålesund, nelle Isole Svalbard.
Il tecnico si trovava presso la Stazione del Cnr dal primo gennaio 2020 con il ruolo di acting station leader ed era rimasto bloccato, causa COVID-19.

Il record è stato battuto nel corso di un campionamento nel Mare di Ross in Antartide, effettuato per la campagna oceanografica della 35a spedizione del Programma Nazionale di Ricerche in Antartide (PNRA), gestito da ENEA per la pianificazione e l’organizzazione logistica e dal Cnr per la programmazione e il coordinamento scientifico.

The SIOS Remote Sensing Working Group (SIOS RSWG) periodically publishes three surveys to receive inputs from the Svalbard science community. All the responses will be used to generate documents useful for the Svalbard science community.

È partita il 13 marzo la spedizione esplorativa del progetto Ice Memory sul massiccio del Gran Sasso per studiare lo stato del corpo glaciale più meridionale d'Europa, il Calderone. Quanto ghiaccio è ancora conservato sotto la neve e i detriti? Cosa può ancora dirci sul clima e l'ambiente del passato? I dati dell'indagine geofisica in corso permetteranno al team del progetto di rispondere a queste domande e anche di scegliere il posto migliore per estrarre una carota di ghiaccio che, se ha conservato al meglio la sua memoria ambientale, potrebbe aggiungersi alle altre nel futuro santuario antartico del progetto Ice Memory. Initiated by the Standing Committee on Antarctic Data Management (SCADM), the report recommends & explains 10 fundamental principles for polar data policies.
Applications for the 2024 Fellowship Scheme are now open and close 31 July 2024.
The Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research (SCAR) initiated the SCAR Fellowship Programme in 2002. The aim was to encourage the active involvement of early-career researchers in Antarctic scientific research and to build new connections and further strengthen international capacity and cooperation in Antarctic research. Since the initiation of the programme, more than 80 SCAR Fellowships have been awarded.
The SCAR Fellowship Programme is designed to encourage the active involvement of early-career researchers in furthering our understanding of Antarctica.
The Fellowships enable early-career researchers to join a project team from another country, opening up new opportunities and often creating partnerships that last many years and over many Antarctic research seasons.

SCAR Antarctic Fellowship Opportunities for 2022
The details for the SCAR scheme will be similar to previous years but with the opportunity for applicants to propose partly or entirely remote fellowships to reflect the impact of Covid19 related travel restrictions.
The deadline for the SCAR fellowship applications is 31 August 2022.
Competition: design an infographic describing plastic pollution in polar regions
The SCAR Plastic Action Group (Plastic-AG) announces a competition for Early Career Researchers (ECRs) to create an infographic describing plastic pollution in polar regions. The infographic should synthetise available scientific literature and visualize data about plastic pollution in polar regions (in the Arctic and/or Antarctica), including micro- and nanoplastics, to represent the latest advancements in polar research, including key concerns for polar ecosystems.

Strategic Plan 2023 - 2028
School and Workshop on Polar Climates: Theoretical, Observational and Modelling Advances will take place on 22-31 July 2024 at the Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP) in Trieste, Italy. Topics will include: Polar hydrography; Atmospheric processes and interactions with ocean and cryosphere; Ocean-ice sheet interactions; Role of sea ice and its changes under global warming; Biogeochemical processes and their physical drivers; Observational techniques and numerical modelling.
