Il 18 marzo 2022 è stato inaugurato l'ampliamento della variante di valico dell'autostrada A1 con la realizzazione della galleria Santa Lucia, lunga quasi 8 km. La galleria a tre corsie più lunga al mondo è in linea con gli obiettivi internazionali di protezione ambientale ed economia circolare. Il CNR-IRSA e CNR-ISP hanno collaborato con Autostrade per l’Italia e con l’impresa che ha eseguito i lavori per svolgere studi ambientali sul sito e stendere un protocollo di lavoro che ha permesso di valutare l’eco-compatibilità delle terre scavate, ponendo attenzione alla persistenza di composti chimici presenti negli additivi utilizzati per i lavori. Il 18 marzo 2022 è stato inaugurato l'ampliamento della variante di valico dell'autostrada A1, in particolare il tratto Barberino del Mugello-Firenze Nord, con la realizzazione della galleria Santa Lucia, lunga quasi 8 km, oggi la più grande galleria a tre corsie esistente al mondo.

A tale evento hanno partecipato i presidenti delle regioni Toscana ed Emilia Romagna, il sindaco di Firenze e i sindaci di Barberino di Mugello e di Calenzano, i vertici di Autostrade per l’Italia SpA, nonché il Ministro delle Infrastrutture e della Mobilità Sostenibili.

La realizzazione della Galleria, durata tre anni, ha avuto tra i principali obiettivi la conservazione e protezione del contesto ambientale in cui si inserivano le attività di scavo, attraverso una gestione sostenibile delle ingenti quantità di terre prodotte (circa 1.480.000 m3).

La mostra fotografica Artica si compone di due serie fotografiche titolate rispettivamente 80° e Anabasis/Katabasis, scattate da Giulio Rimondi nel corso di una residenza d’artista nell’arcipelago delle Svalbard. Evento si avvale della collaborazione del Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche e dell’Istituto di Scienze Polari (CNR-ISP).

This autumn SIOS offers a training course on how to effectively use AI methods in Arctic Earth observation with special focus on research in Svalbard. The goal of the course is to teach participants the basic skills needed to use AI methods with Arctic Earth observation datasets. The training will be delivered by remote sensing experts from SIOS member institutions, international researchers, and experts from the industry. Official Site

The EU4Ocean Coalition is preparing the Let’s listen to the Arctic Ocean event series, supported by the Directorate-General for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries of the European Commission.

The aim of the event is to give visibility to all relevant Arctic Ocean related communities, including schools and pupils, teachers, marine science educators, stakeholders from marine-related sectors, NGOs, youth, policy-makers and government representatives, public institutions, researchers and academia, conservationists, entrepreneurs, other ocean professionals as well as general citizens. Three virtual events on the 5^th of April are offering insights into Arctic Ocean literacy activities and include active exchanges of these communities. Registration

The EU-PolarNet 2 Call for Services is open for submissions until 20 May 2022.

EU-PolarNet 2 seeks support from the European Polar Community to develop ideas for concrete research activities. For this purpose, EU-PolarNet 2 will open Calls for Services for all six research needs of the European Polar Research Programme.

Graduated in Experimental and Applied Biology, Environmental Biology and Biodiversity curriculum at the University of Pavia with the thesis Biodegradation of polyethylene (PET ) and polylactic acid (PLA) using Fusarium sp. and evaluation of enzymatic activity. During the bachelor degree, she carried out a short period of study and research at the Marine Research and High Education (MaRHE) center, on the island of Magoodhoo, in the Maldivian Archipelago, where she focused on marine ecology and safeguard of biological systems, related to the coral reef. During the master degree, she took part in the monitoring of alien species project, in the Marine Protection Area of the Porto Venere Regional Park at ENEA, implementing the previous knowledge and techniques of sampling, treatment, and analysis of marine samples. Thanks to internships in microbiology and mycology, experienced during bachelor and master career respectively, she was able to learn techniques of microbiological analysis associated with recalcitrant materials, deepening associated with plastics. Currently, she caries out research activities for the identification and characterization of antibiotic resistant and virulent environmental vectors in coastal marine areas and deep environments at the Institute of Polar Sciences (CNR-ISP) of Messina.

È partita il 13 marzo la spedizione esplorativa del progetto Ice Memory sul massiccio del Gran Sasso per studiare lo stato del corpo glaciale più meridionale d'Europa, il Calderone. Quanto ghiaccio è ancora conservato sotto la neve e i detriti? Cosa può ancora dirci sul clima e l'ambiente del passato? I dati dell'indagine geofisica in corso permetteranno al team del progetto di rispondere a queste domande e anche di scegliere il posto migliore per estrarre una carota di ghiaccio che, se ha conservato al meglio la sua memoria ambientale, potrebbe aggiungersi alle altre nel futuro santuario antartico del progetto Ice Memory.  Comunicato CNR
