Al Chiostro del Museo di Sant’Agostino è allestita da venerdì 25 ottobre 2024 Ice Memory. Una missione davvero glaciale, mostra dedicata al grande progetto internazionale a cui il Cnr partecipa con il CNR-ISP, che sta completando la raccolta e conservazione di carote di ghiaccio provenienti da ghiacciai antartici e artici minacciati dal cambiamento climatico, con il duplice scopo di indagare le condizioni ambientali del nostro pianeta dal passato ad oggi, e creare un archivio a disposizione delle future generazioni di scienziati. In particolare, la mostra prevede l’installazione di una tenda di carotaggio all'interno della quale vedere, in un ambiente emozionale ed immersivo, il sistema di perforazione usato dai ricercatori.

Nei giorni 21, 22 e 23 ottobre 2024, il CNR ospiterà il NySMAC (Ny-Ålesund Science Managers Committee), il comitato responsabile della gestione delle basi di ricerca a Ny-Ålesund (Isole Svalbard - Artico). Oltre ai responsabili della Base Artica del CNR e della Kings Bay, che si occupa delle esigenze logistiche del villaggio di Ny-Ålesund, parteciperanno anche rappresentanti di diverse istituzioni di ricerca provenienti da Norvegia, Germania, India, Svezia, Corea, Cina e Giappone.
Nel corso delle tre giornate di incontri verranno affrontate tutte le questioni scientifiche, tecniche e logistiche fondamentali per garantire il pieno funzionamento delle attività di ricerca e monitoraggio svolte nella zona.
The 61st NySMAC meeting will be hosted by CNR and take place in Rome, Italy. The meeting will be followed by a one-day workshop on monitoring in Ny-Ålesund.
This a continuation of a popular series of SIOS workshops on marine infrastructure that began in 2020, and it offers the opportunity to connect with scientists working in the marine realm of Svalbard and learn more about Svalbard’s marine infrastructure. This workshop will present marine infrastructures and time series around Svalbard and will include an update on the Atlantic-Arctic Distributed Biological Observatory (A-DBO) as well as a presentation on the European Marine Biological Resource Centre. The EU funded project POLARIN invites the scientific community to submit proposals to access 49 Research Infrastructures (RIs) in both polar regions contributing to addressing the key research priorities.

POLARIN is an international network of polar research infrastructures and their services, aiming at addressing the scientific challenges of the polar regions. The network includes a wide array of complementary and interdisciplinary top level research infrastructures: Arctic and Antarctic research stations, research vessels and icebreakers operating at both poles, observatories, data infrastructures and ice and sediment core repositories.

Applications are open for the IASC Fellowship Program 2025. The IASC Fellowship Program is meant to engage early career researchers in the work of the IASC Working Groups, and a total of 9 Fellowships will be offered for 2025.
The deadline for applications is 23 October 2024.

- Interazioni Terra/Ghiaccio/Clima; Oceano, Litosfera e Atmosfera Antartiche;
- La vita in Antartide; Evoluzione, adattamento, biodiversità e biocenosi;
- Astronomia, astrofisica e space weather;
- Impatto antropico e contaminazione ambientale;
- Biomedicina e psicologia;
- Tecnologia in Antartide
Le domande dovranno essere compilate in lingua inglese a partire dalle ore 12.00 del 16 ottobre 2024 e trasmesse entro e non oltre le ore 12.00 del 27 novembre 2024

The conference aims to:
- Provide a forum for those engaged in Earth System Science research in Svalbard - from Early Career Researchers to senior scientists - to share their latest results and network.
- Reduce the cost and environmental impact of conference participation.
- Review the state-of-the-art in Earth Observation and Remote Sensing applications in Svalbard.
- Demonstrate the breadth of Earth System Science research undertaken in Svalbard using remote sensing, fieldwork and modeling. MORE INFO

The international initiatives CATCH, PACES, BEPSII, ASPeCt and QUiesCENT will hold a joint workshop bringing together scientists and stakeholders with an interest in atmosphere-ice-ocean research focussing on chemical, biogeochemical and physical processes in the Arctic and Antarctic and links to climate change. Cold regions which are seasonally or permanently covered by snow and ice, notably the Third Pole, are also of interest.

Groenlandia: il 31 agosto si è conclusa la prima entusiasmante spedizione scientifica del Progetto Kang-Glac Assessing ocean-forced, marine-terminating glacier change in Greenland during climatic warm periods and its impact on marine productivity a cui hanno partecipato le nostre ricercatrici ISP a bordo della nuova nave rompighiaccio Sir David Attenborough del British Antarctic Survey (BAS), per studiare l’entità dello scioglimento della calotta di ghiaccio e le implicazioni ambientali e climatiche che si ripercuotono sul nostro pianeta.
