He is a Senior Research Scientist at the Institute of Polar Sciences and, since 2015, a lecturer in glaciology at the Department of Mathematics, Informatics and Geosciences of the University of Trieste.
He holds a Master’s degree in Geology (2009) and a PhD in Environmental Sciences (2013), and further developed his expertise in glacial and periglacial geomorphology at the University Centre in Svalbard (UNIS), Norway. He has been working at the National Research Council (CNR) since 2001, after serving on the technical staff of the Istituto Talassografico of Trieste (2001–2004) and at the Institute of Marine Sciences (2004–2020) within the Climate and Paleoclimate Research Group.
His research focuses on the interactions between the cryosphere and climate from the end of the Last Glacial Maximum to the Holocene. His main research topics include glacial and periglacial geomorphology, glaciology, meteorological and climate monitoring with particular attention to high-altitude Alpine and Arctic regions, and cave ice deposits.
He has participated in several scientific expeditions in Greenland (2022–2025), Antarctica (2015 and 2016), Pakistan–Karakoram (2013), and the Chilean Andes (2012). From 2014 to 2017 he was a member of the Council of the European Meteorological Society.
