Researcher at the National Research Council – Institute of Polar Sciences (CNR-ISP), Messina branch (Italy), since December 2021. She obtained her MSc in Marine Biology and Coastal Ecology (2012) and her PhD in Environmental Sciences (2016) from the University of Messina. Her research focuses on marine bioacoustics, with particular emphasis on the ecology, distribution and impact of anthropogenic noise on marine mammals. She also develops and applies methodologies and tools for the automated analysis of large acoustic datasets, integrating interdisciplinary approaches and advanced technologies for marine environmental monitoring. Throughout her career, she has been involved in national and international research projects, collaborating with major research infrastructures and deep-sea observatories (EMSO, KM3NeT, INFN-LNS). She conducted research at the Ocean Acoustics Lab of the Alfred Wegener Institute (AWI, Germany), contributing to the development of international collaborations in marine bioacoustics and polar science. From 2023 to 2026, she has served as Principal Investigator of the PRIN PNRR project KNOWhale and as Unit leader in the PRIN 2022 project DIVES, both funded under the Next Generation EU programme (Mission 4 “Education and Research” – Component C2 Investment 1.1). She is also CNR Principal Investigator for the Horizon Europe project LOWNOISER. She participates in coordination activities in international contexts, in particular as Italian national representative in the PAME Working Group (“Protection of the Arctic Marine Environment”) of the Arctic Council. She is author of publications in international peer-reviewed (ISI-indexed) journals, as well as contributions to conference proceedings, books and technical reports, as documented in her ORCID profile. Her work has been presented across a wide range of national and international conferences. She is a founding and board member of the non-profit organization eConscience – Art of Soundscape, dedicated to scientific research and public outreach.
