From 1993 attended the CNR-ISMAR Institute of Marine Sciences (ex Institute of Marine Geology) section of Bologna. In 2006 he obtains a stable position as researcher at the Institute of Marine Sciences of the CNR, since 2019 he joined to the nascent Polar Science Institute. Attended to more than 30 oceanographic cruises most of the which (21) in polar regions.
He is Author or Co-Autor of more than 60 International Papers, book chapters and Technical reports.
Scientific Topics: Geology and environmental geochemistry, especially for the carbon and Biogenic fluxes analyses as proxy of primary production in the euphotic layer of the oceans and to the reconstruction of the late Holocene climatic cycles. Geochemical studies of the marine particles in the water column and the processes of bottom sediment/water interaction. Use of environmental and paleoenvironmental proxy: Total organic Carbon, Nitrogen Biogenic Silica and Biogenic Barium and other trace metals (F, Al and Mn), radioisotopes (230Th, 234-238U 10Be, 14C, 210Pb e 137Cs), and stable Isotopes (δ18O, δ13C e δ15N) and sedimentological characteristics of the sediment. Determination of the accumulation rate in the bottom sediments for time scales ranging from under years to thousand under years. XRF fluorescenze elemental Analyses.
